😷 It's a shame that the second gentleman, Doug Emhoff, has Covid, but since there's been an increase in infections circulating across the US, with new variants, it's not surprising. I'll never understand why people refuse to take precautions. Masking is easy & effective... I hope that he has a speedy recovery.

Second gentleman Doug Emhoff tests positive for COVID

Emhoff tested positive for COVID on Saturday after experiencing mild symptoms, his office said in a statement. Vice President Kamala Harris tested negative.

At this point, I know maybe 6 or 7 people (8 if you include me) irl, that haven't been infected with #Covid19.

Every time I tell people I've never gotten #Covid , they seem shocked.

All the people I know who are #Novid do at least 2 of the following.

- Not spending time indoors unmasked around others that aren't in their "bubble." If they do see people outside their bubble, they try to do stuff outside. If it has to be indoors, everyone must #MaskUp when inside

- Don't spend a lot of time in public places indoors - especially when there are crowds.

- Having common shared agreements about #CovidPrecautions with the people they do see unmasked (usually about 3 people total - sometimes less - and it's pretty much always the people they live with).

- #Masking in public using high-quality and well fitted masks (N95/KF94/KN95) - everyone I know who has remained Covid free is doing this.

I've watched basically every single person I know catch Covid, some of them multiple times, and it gets harder for me to comprehend how myself and others are screaming from the rooftops about #LayersOfProtection , yet they're still not #MaskingUp.

It's honestly just exhausting at this point because not only can the social isolation get you down sometimes, but I'm also just tired of seeing my friends get sick.

I’m trying to persuade my brother to take Covid precautions more seriously. He asked the very sensible question “what proportion of long covid sufferers have symptoms that affect their ability to work?”
Can anyone offer links to studies which address this question?

Are there any free/low cost N95/KN95 type mask deals that anyone knows of? In USA, NorthEast specifically

@magicalwoodlands Yes, #CovidPrecautions are a pain, but so worth it. I'm masking and running CR boxes at home right now because I have some kind of respiratory bug that I don't want to share with my 81-yr-old husband. My Covid home test this morning was negative. If it turns out that I do have Covid, it will be because one-way masking with N95s isn't quite enough.

We're going to spend some time walking on a trail in a park with one other friend today. She usually doesn't mask, but she will today. I'm thinking if we all wear well-fitting #KN95 masks outside, it should be ok.

I'm not wrong, am I? Should we be wearing our better #N95 masks outside with her too?

We need our lifetime risk of catching SARS-n to be less than 10%. A 1% chance of getting infected each time we go to the dentist isn't compatible with that. The risk per dental visit has to be like .01% for it not to consume almost your entire risk budget. So, for all practical purposes, the risk at the dentist has to be 0%.

I was thinking about what can be done to make dentists safe after https://nitter.net/ParentMishmash got infected at the dentist. He was wearing a PAPR nose mask and he still got infected.

We need a network of dentists - at least one in every state/province/etc in the world - who'll agree to take 3 tests per day in the week leading up to the appointment and to prove it by emailing pics. I say 3 tests per day because many of ParentMishmash's tests were negative and he had to test himself multiple times per day to find out that he had it.

Other precautions are needed too (like N95's, air filters, ventilation, etc) but there's not enough evidence that those precautions will protect you if they are breathing virus straight onto you from inches away.

While my mom was here, she masked up and respected my #CovidProtocols, and I only needed to remind or ask her a couple of times.

Considering my immediate family has totally abandoned masking, social distancing, and regular testing back home, I consider this a huge win for #CovidSafety.

Why? Because it tells me that a lot of people are willing to #MaskUp when asked and take #CovidPrecautions - but they've fallen into the #LetItRip trap and the #CovidIsOver narrative so they've given up precautions.

Is it exhausting, frustrating, and deeply upsetting when people fail to understand that we still need to #MaskUp on their own?

Yes.

Does it mean we stop having these conversations and give up all hope that people who have stopped masking will change?

No.
