For instance, this "burning" effect of closing a desktop window gives a satisfying feeling of finality (closure) with whatever task I was handling in it, freeing up my mind and allowing more focus to the next thing.
Emulating a physical action (such as burning) ties in the real world to a digital action, which Apple for instance knows very well is extremely valuable to the experience of the user, who happens to be meatware (READ: a human).
