Community tech: meet the people building alternatives
March 22, 2026, 4:00:00โฏPM CET - GMT+1 - Klareborgsgatan, 414 61, Gรถteborg, Sverigehttps://organisera.org/events/4e496999-00b5-4c03-bdd6-0e872311f6c4
If you're an artist
or a technologist building #communitytech for artists
or both!
This is a great list of possible ways to fund your work
https://gfsc.community/what-if-we-made-money-at-the-intersection-of-art-and-technology/

just kidding ........ unless ?? ๐ ๐ฐ ๐ป ๐งโ๐จ. A run-down of the 15 ways we could think of to get funding for your project: from the capitalist (venture capital) to the grassroots (direct donations). We cover the various types of community, arts, research and business funding, and even mention DAOs.
Your doorbell camera is good for watching for porch pirates. Now it may also help spot wildfires. ๐ฅ Ringโs new Fire Watch feature uses AI to detect smoke and flames via outdoor cameras, alerting nearby users when Watch Duty flags a potential fire. Itโs a reminder that the most powerful safety networks arenโt always built by governments, but by millions of ordinary devices quietly watching the edges of our lives.
Thereโs a philosophical shift here worth noticing. Surveillance tech is being reframed as community infrastructure, but only if trust, consent, and restraint are designed in from the start. Technology doesnโt become civic-minded by accident. Someone has to decide that it should.
The interesting question isnโt whether this works. Itโs how many other โsingle-purposeโ devices are waiting to be reimagined as public goods.
TL;DR
๐ง Ring cameras can now spot smoke and flames
โก Alerts are opt-in and community-driven
๐ Consumer tech is drifting into civic duty
๐ Trust and design choices will decide if it lasts

"Perhaps the most powerful infrastructure is the one we build between us through trust, empathy and the shared belief that technology can belong to everyone."
>>> Reflections from the #globalgathering 2025:
Decentralization is more than code. Itโs governance, resilience, and community.
If youโre building something that empowers users, we want to hear from you at the Decentralised Communication devroom.

Do you hate #broligarchs?
#Billionaires? #AiSlop but still think there is merit in #AI?
Here is my proposal for a stand alone.
OFFGRID COMMUNITY AI SYSTEM.
That's right.Your very own co-op AI
The calculations are very much back of the envelope, first cut, but quite feasible.
A 32billion parameters, frontier level performance compatable open source #llm model. The power requirements is that of 3AC units including cooling. Serves 15-20 concurrent users. 40 households of 4 people each (taking into account actual AI model distributed use metrics and contention ratios)
40 households, subscribing at $30/month over 2 years + power (solar). Train with your own datasets.
Entire set up takes half a rack.
LETS GO!!!
