I'm excited to see how this goes! Lots of projects going into motion so this may be a long one, sorry in advance. For as long as I remember I have loved snowboard movies and this winter am going to create my own FIRST EDIT!!! It has been a warm rainy winter so far up here in the PNW so the snowboard season hasn't even started, but I am making this commitment now as I have tons to learn in preparation!

I am working on embracing my creative self more. As I started to journey into writing, at points I thought sharing my writing daily could be a way to grow my creativity, but there is a reason I'm paid to write for computers, not people. I still plan to continue writing and journaling daily. Only for the calm it brings me, not sharing the resulting words. That all being said, I have a huge passion for gnarly adventures in nature and have always itched to capture them on camera. So that's the plan! I kicked off by getting a GoPro MAX2 and will use it to start recording and making small clips, while also learning how to mix tracks. This winter, I will make my own snowboard edit, including highlights from the whole season, made with music I create myself. 0% AI, 100% Bryan.

That being said, I'm still a total techie and excited to see the #fediverse grow! So I will continue to share my thoughts here, but I also spun up a #pixelfed instance pix.snowboardtechie.com to share photos that I capture along the way. Though I may invite some close friends and family to the instance if they are ever interested, I plan on keeping the SnowboardTechie domain pretty much to myself.

This leads me to starting up a #bonfiresocial instance. I want a place to welcome any folks that are pumped for adrenaline rushes. After catching word of the work #bonfire team is doing to create a great platform for communities I spun up gnar.social! Keeping this invite only for now to play safe, but will openly share invites to anyone that is interested in joining.

Was ein Chaos...

Ich schaue mich ja aus Interesse (aus echtem Interesse) gerade ein wenig bei Bonfire Social um. Da es bisher keine auffindbaren Instanzen gibt, dann halt bei "Campground", der Test-Instanz (ohne Föderation), die mit dem aktuellen Release Candidate läuft.

Solch einen chaotischen und in der Praxis echt nicht nutzbaren Stream (Timeline/Feed) hab ich echt noch nicht gesehen. Es scheint so, dass Kommentare zu Postings oder vorhandenen Kommentaren immer ganz oben im Feed erscheinen. Gemeinsam mit dem Posting oder dem Kommentar, auf den geantwortet wurde. Also nicht einmal, sondern immer wieder, mit jedem Kommentar. Das bedeutet, dass Postings bzw. Kommentare ständig im Feed wiederholt erscheinen. Immer so paarweise. Will man den gesamten Thread in der exakten Reihenfolge sehen, muss man das Posting bzw. den Kommentar aufrufen, indem man auf das Veröffentlichungs-Datum klickt. Dann wird der Thread komplett angezeigt.

Eine Filtermöglichkeit habe ich nicht gefunden. Bei Hubzilla kann ich die Stream-Reihenfolge ja festlegen und damit bestimmen, ob Postings, bei denen eine Antwort eingetroffen ist, wieder oben im Stream erscheinen. Sowas habe ich nicht gefunden. Und so ist der Feed gefüllt mit Doppelt- und X-fach-Einträgen. Übersichtlich ist anders. Und man doomscrollt dann, bis man wieder einmal etwas Neues gefunden hat, wenn man es nicht sogar übersieht.

Ist ja auch kein Ding... ist ja neu und frisch die Software. Aber ein Veröffentlichungs-Kandidat? Das verschreckt nicht nur bisherige Mastodon-Nutzer (die auch nicht mit richtig ordentlichen Threads gesegnet sind), sondern auch jeden, der von einer anderen Plattform kommt.

In meinen Augen, ist es noch ein Stück weit davon entfernt, vernünftig genutzt werden zu können.

Bonfire is looking really 👀👀👀
A lot of what I was looking for in Mastodon, but with the intention of being modular and extensible

And actually intending on delivering improvements based on research for better social interactions

Just being able to use circles like Google+ and granularly set reply, visibility, and interaction controls is great
