Tuesday, June 9, 2026

The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), with financial support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), facilitated access to safe drinking water for 270 internally displaced families in the Alisher and Gurbuz districts of Khost Province.

Sheikh-ul-Hadith Mohammad Wali Jan Adalat Yar, head of the ARCS’s provincial representation in Khost, stated that these families previously lacked adequate access to safe drinking water, and their children were afflicted with various illnesses due to the use of unsafe water sources.

He added that this initiative was undertaken to resolve this problem and provide a means for people to obtain safe drinking water.

Under this project, ten water storage tanks have been installed in the aforementioned areas, each possessing a capacity to hold 1,000 liters of water. These tanks will be replenished daily by water tankers, which families will utilize for drinking and other essential needs.

The aim of this project is to provide access to safe drinking water, alleviate water scarcity, and prevent illnesses caused by contaminated water.

The Afghan Red Crescent Society endeavors to improve the living conditions and reduce the health risks faced by vulnerable and displaced families through water programs, sanitation initiatives, and health interventions.

"The AI industry engages in the same kind of labor outsourcing that many other industries do, finding places that are far away and off the radar of their average consumer to perform the dirtiest work. In the AI industry, however, there's an additional layer.

Anyone who buys clothes has an inherent understanding that they were made by someone, somewhere. With AI, that fundamental assumption isn't there because most people don’t understand that digital technologies have a very physical footprint and that a lot of labor is involved. By doing the same kind of outsourcing that other industries have done, it enhances the “magic veneer” created for their AI products."—Karen Hao

"These companies' behavior directly parallels that of historical empires. They literally grab a lot of land to build the data centers they need to train their AI models."

Because, you know, why pay for something with taxes if you don’t believe it’s beneficial? Buy yourself #clean_air, #clean_water, #clean_energy if you want. But it’s ‘Marxism’ that tells you you *must* pay and have it. 🤦🏼‍♂️ We’re becoming the #subscription_society for EVERYTHING. <looks for O2 tank>

Protect water from coal mining operations - ask the House to oppose HB 576

HB 576 is a coal mining company’s dream. The bill weakens a number of permitting requirements, but its worst changes weaken water quality protections, specifically regarding how much pollution can enter eastern Montana’s sensitive prairie streams. These changes would also allow mines to discharge water that exceeds pollution standards without repercussions. The bill would apply to coal mine permits that were found to be in noncompliance with pollution standards, meaning that mines that were once considered TOO polluting would now be given a free pass. Message the full House and tell them our water is too important to let coal mines pollute more and increase the damage they cause to water, agriculture and wildlife. Vote no on HB 576.
