According to #Wikipedia, the #TarrSteps are form of construction called a #ClapperBridge and were originally built in #Medieval times but these are not the original stones as they have been damages and swept away several times in their history during storms and rebuilt, luckily in the same manner.

This clapper bridge spans the Becka Brook in the wooded part of the valley between Greator Rocks and Smallacombe Rocks. It’s a route from Haytor to Hound Tor, so very popular in the summer. Nice & quiet today though 😊.
I’m no horse rider, but I think you would need a sure-footed mount to negotiate the mossy boulders of the bridleway on the way down, which was also running like a stream after days of rain.
