Let it be known that I'm not that good in the Art of Carefully Reading, a long forgotten skill. Of course good is not always what I want. So i looked up this recent blogpost by @dwarmstrong , describing how to get zfs et al up and running on Chimera and I applied it to the new Casuarina Linux. Works very well, cool! Prior to that I missed some clear instructions, so there's that. On we go, thanks all who helped me out along the winding road (self-inflicted 😆 )!

I got diverted today, you could say. Wound up in the BSD world again, and it remains a great place to be. Will keep running my KDE at least until 6.7.
Nevertheless: diverted from Casuarina Linux, a must try. Couple that with a very interesting blogpost of some time ago and i'm really looking forward to it. More tomorrow, especially if The Powers That Be let me off the hook like today.

After many months work I'm pleased to have finally published the Casuarina Linux website and initial ISO. There's still things to improve, but it's been my daily driver for a while now. The next major project is packaging COSMIC desktop. I have it mostly working (I'm using it right now), but there are some things to fix before it can be merged.

Casuarina Linux is a distribution derived from Chimera Linux that swaps musl libc for glibc in order to gain more compatibility with the wider GNU/Linux ecosystem. Like Chimera it uses FreeBSD derived core utilities, Dinit init, LLVM toolchain (except for building glibc), apk package manager, and Chimera developed cbuild package build tooling.

I updated the Zed package to the latest release, then had some fun and packaged the Dillo web browser. I built it with the experimental FLTK 1.4 support, which gets it HiDPI support.

My reward for getting both our printers working on Casuarina today. No thanks to Xprinter (my label printer manufacturer) for distributing their driver as a rar file with a .deb inside. Which meant `rar` -> `deb` -> data.tar.xz -> finally PPDs and filter binaries. That was fun to package.

I successfully worked from Casuarina Linux last week. Today I've been working on getting COSMIC packaged. I didn't realise how many (mostly window management) things COSMIC gets right, and I miss in GNOME. Interestingly this seems to be more prominent when I'm using a big display. On my laptop GNOME was fine.

I just got my first successful COSMIC session. There's still some things to fix, in particular the screenshot utility, which is why this is a photo of my display.

Making progress! Installed Casuarina on my desktop, now to build Mercury, then Prince. If that works (it should) then I can do my job from this install next week.
