I'm so happy about this.

Inspired by @Aurin_the_classtraitor I started making a box of cards for myself, but not just your typical flashcards for #SpacedRepetition, but for whatever.

The first thing I love about this is that I love standardization.
▢️ The box is a wooden A6 box for flashcards (landscape format)
▢️ I use blank A& cards/paper (200g/m2) because I use my cards in portrait format and lined flashcards only exist in landscape format.
▢️ I use A6 tab cards in 4 colors
▢️ I put 16x9 mm labels to stick over the tab labels and write my own categories
▢️ All of this can be bought in nearby stores - no customization needed

But the main thing I love, is that this can be used for so much more than vocab.
My tabs:
➑️ Juggling: I put the names and a simple illustration of all the juggling tricks I know on cards and ordered them in 5 tabs:
play: tricks I can do very well and play around with, vary and e.g. use as warm-ups
perfect: tricks I can do pretty well, but want to be able to do better
train: tricks I can basically do, but not good yet
learn: tricks I understand and am learning
try: tricks that are new to me
➑️ Yoga: I put a lot of asanas and illustrations on cards and put them in the tabs:
calm
stretching
balance
strength
and new
(btw many asanas probably can't be put in one of these categories for everybody - this is about what I struggle with the most with the specific asana - except for "calm" which means I don't struggle)
➑️ classic flash cards with tabs for now, today, tomorrow, this week, next week, one for all 12 months of the year, done, archive and new
➑️ Drums: I haven't created the cards yet, but the tabs are similar to juggling: warm(-up), play, train, learn, try
➑️ Feelings: I created lots and lots of cards for feelings - not just emotions, but broader. I think this will help me better understand and describe how I feel. This deck will still grow a lot because there are so many things you can feel. So far the cards only contain the word(s) describing the feeling, but I'll probably add "links" to related cards and other stuff. It took me a while to find a tab system I'm happy with, and it will probably change, but right now I have these (all with 2 tabs for positive and negative feelings):
mood
balance (for anything related to calmness, freedom, stress, dependence, boredom, ...)
security (for things like clarity, determination, confusion & brain fog)
energy (self-empowerment, drive, creativity, powerlessness, avolition, anhedonia, ...)
self-worth (pride, self-love, shame, blame, ...)
courage (hope, defiance, pleasant anticipation ("Vorfreude"), fear, panic, fright, ...)
interest (lust, curiosity, excitement, indifference, disgust, revulsion)
affection (love, friendship, admiration, closeness, hate, distance, agression, anger, ...)
interpersonal (this needs a new name contains mostly pseudo emotions that describe less how you feel, but why: esteem, praise, belonging, humiliation, punishment, jealousy, distrust, ...)
physical (scent, warmth, beauty, stench, heat, ugliness, ...)

On the first card I have gathered more ideas like embodyment & mindfulness exercises, mental skills, local plant & animal species, ...
On it's back I have written down all the measures so I can get more boxes, cards, tabs and labels, when I need them.

I might post more about #PaulasBox as I gain more experience with it.

Btw, this easily covers my #3GoodThings of today.

I lost track of how many people asked me for advice on how to use #Gmail and #Trello together. #Cardbox is a fantastic power-up that can do that in such a wonderful way. You can see it in action by checking out my video about it.

@PaulaToThePeople
This is awesome! Thank you so much for expanding on and playing with my ideas about spaced repetition flashcards! I love what you've done here.

I had to put my own box to the side bc my life got derailed suddenly, but I do look forward to learning Finnish, plants and permaculture techniques again soon (hopefully).

It'd be fascinating to see how learning stuff like juggling and drums goes over a longer period of time. I assume well πŸ˜„

@PaulaToThePeople
btw I think you hit the nail on the head with "pseudo emotions", that seems like a good category name for them. Then whenever you feel like one of those, it can be a red flag to look for possible manipulation or miscommunication with others around you.

Cause like I think they have "real" counterparts; admiration as a pseudo emotion is hollow, it's putting someone on a pedestal, whereas true admiration comes from seeing someone for who they are and liking them for it and basking in their glory without jealousy or envy.

Toxic shame is being made to feel like you're bad and need to be seperated (physically, emotionally, spiritually, ideologically etc) from all the "deserving" people while healthy shame is realising you did something harmful and motivates you to fix it. To face and process what happened and to either reconnect to the wronged party or to give them space, depending on their wishes and needs.

Shame crops up when a boundary was injured, whether you injured someone else or you were injured and then blamed or told it was nothing. I used to feel shame for what abusers did to me, and explained it like this: "They weren't feeling any shame, but /somebody/ had to, so I felt it." I was basically tanking (gaming term) bad emotions for them, which just made them stronger, like emotional vampires. I found that just refusing to engage with that blame game takes all the wind out of their sails. It's very freeing!

@Aurin_the_classtraitor I only just restarted the box idea myself. I had an infection right after starting and since then I have post covid or whatever. I'm better already, but physical activity is almost completely out of the picture - even juggling. I hope I can start again soon.
I started with the emotion cards because I wanted to see how much I can use my brain again and I think with them I found pretty much exactly the level of activity that my brain can handle already.

When I'm better I'll probably start neuro-cognitive training to get my brain to function better again. I don't really know what that is yet, but maybe I can utilize the box for it somehow too.

i think one term for this sort of thing may be "zettelkasten"? (although i think it's for a specific system of note IDs)

OMG a fellow juggler in the fediverse! This inspires me to get back into regular practice. It's relaxing and meditative, gets me outside most days, and as I bonus, I get better at juggling ; )

@Aurin_the_classtraitor

@strypey @Aurin_the_classtraitor Yesterday I juggled in the pool. That's such a great combo: light workout with refreshment. And as a bonus you don't have to pick up the balls from the floor.

@PaulaToThePeople
> Yesterday I juggled in the pool

I'll have to remember that come summer. It reminds me of a friend, who could juggle 9 balls behind his back. He said he trained by standing waist-deep in a small river. Just upstream from a weir, which would catch any balls he dropped and couldn't pick up before they floated away : )

I've been thinking about using skateboard bowls for juggling practice too.
