It’s #Blues man Muddy Waters birthday today, April 4 (1913-ish) and to celebrate him starting off on harmonica and a “broken down #accordion” this week’s episode of @accordionnoir radio is a tangle of different squeezebox blues styles

From Muddy Waters himself (with #GarthHudson of The Band on 🪗) to #CountryMusic #Klezmer #CajunMusic #Zydeco #Bluegrass and #Jazz

With the world as it is, a little blues seemed like the thing to do

RHYTHM AND ROOTS FESTIVAL
AUGUST 30 - SEPTEMBER 1, 2024
Mastodon Post

The lineup for the August/September Rhythm and Roots Festival has been announced. It appears in the attached image.

Top billed are Emmylou Harris and the Old Crow Medicine Show.

Next down are the Drive-By Truckers, Larkin Poe, Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country, Ruthie Foster, Shemekia Copeland, Will Evans, and Julia Pratt.

Beyond name recognition, I have no real background with any of the acts in the third group, with the notable exception of Rose and the Bros, who Bandcamp says is out of Ithaca, New York. The folks at Rhythm and Roots say, "Rose & The Bros are a powerhouse ensemble specializing in irresistible Zydeco and Cajun dance grooves, resonating with sweet vocal harmonies and crooning country roots." The band is good too.

You Can't Make This Stuff Up ...

This was Old Band Weekend for me - on Friday I played a contradance as a reunion gig with my old band Floorplay, then Saturday I played a Cajun-themed party with my old band Bayou Faux Pas. They were both lots of fun and well attended. Makes me want to get all my old bands back together.

Off to a square dance this afternoon - I'm not playing; I get to dance finally!
