Yesterday I discovered alcohol can provoke histamine.
The inadvertent research process involved a day-old bug bite, a tiny glass of wine (seriously, 3 tablespoons max - I'd hate to think what effect a standard glass could have), some very intense itching, the development of a hypothesis, and the discovery that said hypothesis was well documented by others more professionally employed in the field.
My foot meanwhile, concerned lest this important scientific connection be insufficiently backed up by field data, continued to itch fiercely.
Conclusion: avoid alcohol entirely until bite is gone gone gone.

Mosquito season is starting to rev up across much of the United States. So you might want to pause summer vacation planning and consider what to look for in insect repellents. U.S. officials say to look only at EPA-registered repellents. But those are only one line of defense. You should also wear long sleeves and long pants. And avoid going out at dusk and dawn, when some types of mosquito tend to be most active. Also, try to remove standing water from around your home if you can, because mosquitoes need to breed in water.
On Sunday, we met up with some friends, along with our granddaughters, for a few hours of park & fishing. It was real nice, except for the no-see-ums & the fact I forgot the bug repellent.
I now look worse than I did with measles or chicken pox & the itching is right up there with the chicken pox. I'm miserable & taking benadryl to help. I haven't had to use it much in the last few years, so it leaves me sleepy.
Misery is my name.
