Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres deserved better
Also, I still stand by my original feelings/perception of Sam’s character the first time I read his (silver age) comic book debut: It’s amazing that a Black superhero had such a grounded, grassroots background. I really loved his community helper / social worker origins.
And ever since his first MCU appearance in Winter Soldier, I always side-eyed the neo-lib, rah-rah-rah, military revising of his classic origins. I thought CA: Civil War was a good movie, but he politically annoyed me in that too (despite Mackie playing the character well).
I wouldn’t have minded so much if Brave New World took a more anti-war, Metal Gear Solid approach to the military and its socio-political effect on Wilson’s character. But it didn’t, and it was more of the same.

Side note: please stop sabotaging BHM with stuff like this. I feel like there have been a myriad of weird, anti-Black (or poisonous anti-minority things) that were released VERY SPECIFICALLY in Feb for the past several years (including the pre-corona times) made just to upset people.

I’m still processing this movie btw. It’s still in my homework to-do list to write a proper review. I just…there was a lot of mistakes made. It will take time.
