6/6/22 pt 2/2 – Her darling little eggs fell out and smashed all over the ground, but he barely gave them a look over and didn’t even bother to eat the yolks, the sod. He must have been hoping for newly hatched squabs to eat. Four little lives lost for nothing. He turned his beady eye on me, then, and hopped back along the fence. Oh, the drama that followed!

6/6/22 pt 1/2 – Where was I? Oh, yes. Imogen, bless her, shouted and fluttered at the crow to clear off, but he just hopped along the fence, casual as you like, then lunged at her nest. She had no choice but to fly away, the poor thing, and so I was left to watch with horror as the evil creature grabbed the nest with his beak and tipped it over his shoulder.

6/1/22 pt 2/3 – Well, one morning, it was near time for Fred to arrive and take over nesting, and I was tired out because my two had been quite restless in their eggs all night. Imogen had kept me from being driven mad by sharing beautiful sparrow tales passed down to her from her mom. I can still hear them in my head right now.

6/1/22 pt 1/3 – As Imogen weaved away at her nest, she chatted and sang, and assured me that everything would be fine, and she just knew I'd be a wonderful mother. Bert and Fred mostly just said hello to each other in passing, but Imogen and me became good friends. She laid four eggs about a week after I laid mine.

5/26/22 pt 2/2 – Luckily, the sweetest sparrow named Imogen was there to help calm my new-mother nerves. She was on her second season, so she and her mate, Bert, were building a beautiful nest across the way from us – on top of a shady ledge attached to the giant folk’s home. Oh, my goodness, they were skilled. Even from where I sat, I could see that their little nest was a work of art.

5/26/22 pt 1/2 – Now where was I with our story? Oh yes. Fred had been a father before, of course, but I’d just had my first-ever clutch of eggs, so I was a nervous wreck. I was convinced I’d accidentally crack them or allow them to get cold and die before they’d hatched, and Fred said I’d make myself too ill to produce crop milk if I didn’t relax, and then where would our squabs be?#mastodon #birdlife #birdstories #birdblog #garden #outdoors #backyard #bird #nature #humorwriting #amwriting
Parsley and Sage in the bushes at the bottom of the garden. Fred and Wilma haven't picked the safest spot for their little ones this time. Julie's hoping they will be moved to a better spot today. In the meantime, the white fanged beast only has access to part of the yard. Be on the lookout tomorrow for Wilma's next interview with Devoted Dove magazine.

Happy fledging day to Parsley and Sage. Two weeks to the day of hatching, they left the nest this morning, then took the walk up the garden with their parents to their temporary holding station in the bushes. Fred is already back at their place now, making his nesting coos.
