9/11/22, pt 2/2 – That said, I’m really looking forward to just sitting back on a nice perch, sleeping and eating whenever I feel like it, and listening to stories from my fellow doves – and of course, hanging out with my lovely Fred. Yes, it’s a good life. You probably won’t hear from me for a while, but keep an eye out. Ariel willing, I’ll be back before you know it! Ta-ta!

9/11/22, pt 1/2 – I’m glad we don’t have to fly away every winter and face all those dangers, though. We’ve had little reason to fear the giant folk here in our garden, and even the white fanged beast has protected us more than pestered us, truth be told. Fred and I have had an excellent season, if I do say so myself. Eleven squabs! Only one didn’t hatch, the poor mite.

9/6/22, pt 3/3 – I asked Fred, “why not just stay here where it’s nice and warm all year round, and giant folk aren’t killing you by the hundreds?” Fred’s so wise, though. He said that they just have to. It’s built into them to do it, and sometimes he envies the adventures they have, and the amazing sights they must see. They have his utmost respect.

9/6/22, pt 2/3 – Some of them are missing toes because the weather where they live suddenly turns so bitter, that their toes freeze and fall off. Would you believe it? I’ve also heard some terrible stories of whole flocks of doves being shot out of the sky by nasty black pebbles that other doves hiding in trees said was done by cruel giant folk. If that’s what those doves have to go through every year, why do they go back?

9/6/22, pt 1/3 – I’m looking forward to bumping into some of our squabs this fall – all grown up and had squabs of their own. I must be a grandmother by now, surely? Yes, I enjoy the fall and winter here. For a little while after breeding season, we’re joined by doves traveling south from colder places up north. I have to say, they have a hard life, compared to us.

8/31/22, pt 3/3 – We have a wonderful neighborhood of friends we join in a local area with lots of trees. We can get all the food we need there, and it’s nice and sheltered – though not without its horrible fanged and clawed beasts. We get to hear the latest gossip, how successful the season was, and of course, who we might have lost.

8/31/22, pt 2/3 – As much as I love each and every squab I bring into this world, this day never comes fast enough. We don’t go far, though. Why would we? The weather here is so mild in the winter. Fred likes to keep an eye on our nest, too, as he’s quite proud of it and doesn’t want anyone stealing it.

8/31/22, pt 1/3 – Oh my goodness, you’ve only just caught me! Another hour and I'd have been gone. It seems only right that you came today, though. This time last year, Abney and Teal had left the nest, and Fred and I were packing up and getting ready to move to our winter abode. Now today, you’ve arrived just after Lea and Perrin fledged out into the garden, and we are off again.

Lea and Perrin are preparing to fledge. One of them climbed out of the nest, and the pair have been busy preening and stretching their wings. Fred and Wilma have been conspicuously absent all day. Expect to find them about the garden by tomorrow morning.

Fred on nest duty with Lea and Perrin, latest squabs. Last of the season? We shall see. No one can doubt Fred and Wilma have had a good year – 11 squabs. Only one didn't hatch.
