Even though it has a very wide range, this is the first time I have seen a pectoral sandpiper (Calidris melanotos). It appears to be rare in Ancash, at least in the highlands.

This bird, photographed near Celendín, Cajamarca, I assume to be a juvenile yellow-breasted brushfinch (Atlapetes latinuchus), although I don't see any images of juveniles on eBird, so it's hard to be 100% sure.

I can spend a whole day wandering through the jungle with no more than glimpses of hummingbirds, but put up a few feeders and you will end up with hundreds of easy-to-photograph birds that appear to hang around all day. I have read that the sugar water itself does no harm to the birds, but I wonder if it could cause hummingbirds to visit less real flowers and thus not pollenate them adequately.
We spent yesterday morning exploring an abandoned Republican era (19th century) hacienda, where we stumbled into this band-winged nightjar (Systellura longirostris) roosting in one of the buildings.
