A loon returns to his territorial pond, calling for his mate and making a long, smooth landing on his belly. 😁 🖤 🤍 🖤
The legs are so far back on a loon's body that if he'd tried to set down on his feet, he would have faceplanted. What he does instead is use his legs and feet, still stretched out behind him, as brakes so he can slow down.

I posted the location information in the hashtags, but these birds are pretty ubiquitous along North American shorelines.
And, those of you who spend time on a beach know the "if I am still, the birds will do their own thing, but they know I am there, so when crossing right in front of me, they will run like crazy, then resume their normal activity." :)
