Considering how many conditions are considered their own "neurotype", should "conservatism" (very outward focused/lack of introspection, very authoritarian/hierarchical, conformist and low ability to empathise with people different from them, very tribalist, reactionary instead of proactively thinking, hightened fear and disgust response, etc.) get to be considered its own neurotype?

What was that tearjerker dementia movie, Losing Her? I don’t think that’s it, but there was this line, “I spend all day trying to remember what it was I was trying to remember,” terrifies and guts me, and I worry about it every time I can’t remember something.

It’s surely coming I’m in my mid sixties, and I’m trying to learn to let them go, tell myself not to worry, I could remember if I spent more time, and not chase my tail for every lost word or name. Just to manage the stress and for not getting lost in trying.

on a personal note, the normal
world I just do not want, I can’t deal with it and I don’t want to. I spent my life thinking I was being nice to people, never attacking except in humour, and trying to make them laugh, trying to be a peaceful place to be for them and didn’t sink in until I was old that none of them got any of it, that it was all coming to them from some human, and they hate people and do not believe your kindness, prefer you as an enemy.

I’ve spent my life in fantasy about people who would accept my kindness, and when that seemed impossible I’ve moved on to fantasies about animals that would, a Disney life in the forest, in a friendly, respectful relationship with the local bears and the ravens.

I guess the reason I’m #AskingAutistic is because I see soooooo sooo much of myself in the research I’m doing to learn about my kids but I’m very wary of self diagnosing & don’t want to take away from the support they need. I just can’t help but think. all. the. time: “Well, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” & “yup, he’s a chip off the old block”

How common is it for #Autism to run in families? #AskingAutistic Are there #AutisticParent #AutisticParents groups? It could be that I’m just overwhelmed navigating the healthcare jungles between my #ADHD #ODD kids, chronic self & recently adding an in-law w/cancer/stroke on top of it all, but I am swimming in Symptom Soup and dunking in Diagnostic Punch trying to be an advocate for all of us so we can get the support/meds/tools/coverage we need. It’s just. fuck. It’s a lot.

Okay, I've only known I was autistic for a couple years, so bear with me. I keep hearing about noise-cancelling headphones. I thought they were just for listening to music and blocking other noises, but they seem to have a greater functionality than that?

I've never seen them. Know nothing about them. Could someone explain them to me, their types and uses, in a very simple, easy-to-understand fashion? Examples are always welcome.

The series Inside Job about Illuminati seemed to have a clearly autism-coded main character. In the lizard people episode this is made explicit, with two references to her 'aspergers' and this as a joke and a disorder.

For some reason I'm ok with this and I'm not completely sure why. What are your thoughts? Maybe it's partly because everyone in the series is a greater or lesser kind of awful?
