@bolts This was a really fascinating story, thanks for writing it!

I have strong feelings on this... #ApprovalVoting would get you all the benefits of positive campaigning, but you would have to spend much, much less on voter education because it's impossible to spoil a ballot by filling in too many bubbles.

#StLouis implemented AV partly in response to a mayoral election in which a White candidate won despite Black candidates winning a majority of the vote, and it's working very well there!

I have written another long, meandering #blog post, to join two I've written on #ApprovalVoting and #Zoning in #MontgomeryCounty #Maryland . What's this one on, you ask?

The #MoCo #Republicans have an initiative in the works that is basically guaranteed to fail because it would just blatantly give them power. It's also maybe illegal.

However, them having started this discussion offers us a wonderful opportunity to discuss a better system: #ProportionalRepresentation !

Montgomery County Republicans Should Drive Towards Proportional Representation

One party rule is bad. Cartel politics is worse.

NYC Primary uses #RankedVoting. As an individual voter, you will be asked to rank them. JFREJA looked at the wide field and gave an example of #ApprovalVoting. They think that both will be good mayors of NYC, but don't rank Cuomo

I'll be on a panel of voting reform experts tomorrow night. Stop by! Presented by Forward Party California.

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Forward CA Speaker Series Presents: Introduction to Alternative Voting Systems. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

"Choose-One" Plurality voting is outdated and lacks the nuance we need to select quality candidates in a state as large and diverse as California. You've probably heard about Ranked Choice Voting, but that's only one of the superior alternatives available. Join Forward Party California (https://www.forwardpartyca.org/) and representatives from Equal Vote Coalition (https://www.equal.vote/) and California Approves (californiaapproves.org) to learn and discuss more about two of those methods, STAR and Approval, and how you as Californians can support new, better ways of voting in your own communities.

@kellyromanych @dillyd this could have been a choose-all-that-apply poll. "Outcome spoiled by primitive voting methods" strikes again. #ApprovalVoting

Anyone know of efforts in #Georgia to push alternative voting systems?

#RCV #IRV #approvalVoting

Why aren't we talking about #approvalVoting more often??!?!?!?!?!

@freeformz not only that, we require them to metaphorically line up behind a single candidate, even when counting "Rank choice" IRV/STV ๐Ÿ™ƒ But #ApprovalVoting and #STARvoting (and some ranked ballot counting methods, mostly pairwise ones) don't diminish your voting power when you like more candidates because your lesser favorites are counted simultaneously. Wild is that the majority of voters often like the majority of candidates and we don't seem to see this.
