Sorry lil’ buddy. In a better world I could’ve kept you around. Too bad we live in this one. #ApolloForReddit

(Yes, I know you can do some side-load, flux capacitor magic to still use it. That isn’t for me)

Today is Apollo for Reddit's last day, and I just released its last update. 🥹 I just wanted to say a big thank you to the folks who have used and supported Apollo over the years, it's been the dream of a lifetime to build this app over the last 9 years. ❤️ Read the eulogy inside! ❤️

Hey all, With that, Apollo's last update has landed! It includes: - Some fun easter eggs! - Tidies some things up for the closure later...

Goodnight sweet Prince. #ApolloForReddit

As the end of #ApolloForReddit draws nigh, the hunt for a suitable fediverse alternative is on.
I've signed up at feddit.dk and have been using the Mlem client, which has made significant progress over the last month and attempts to be an Apollo-clone for #Lemmy.

However, I've just learned of an even better alternative: WefWef.app
It's a web-app but it feels smoother than any native Lemmy app I've tried yet.

YSK: about wefwef, a mobile friendly 'Apollo like' Lemmy web app. By far the best mobile experience I have tried so far. - programming.dev

It has a really nice UI. Link to the github: https://github.com/aeharding/wefwef [https://github.com/aeharding/wefwef] It is listed under web apps in this thread: https://lemmy.world/post/465785 [https://lemmy.world/post/465785]

I'm so damn sad over the #Reddit api shit going on. I loved using #ApolloForReddit and it's shutting down because of this change. It's so damn unfair. I don't know what to do about it. And the thing is Reddit holds so much information and valuable content. Even yesterday I couldn't totally stay away from it because I needed advice from Reddit about #Pokemon so I had to use the cached version. Apollo is such a fantastic app and I don't want it to go away...
Thank you to u/spez for getting me to check lemmy in more depth even though that was never his intention. lol. I am really enjoying the influx of federated group content into my life. I didn't have a reddit account to begin with but thanks for generating excitement and momentum around federated groups.

I realize that I mainly share and interact with lemmy and kbin posts from the akkoma micro-blogging software although I have an account on a small niche lemmy instance. That seems really ok to me, even fantastic dare I say. That is what makes open protocols such as activitypub so great! The flexibility, the openess, the freedom...

I saw this reddit post making the rounds on fedi concerning privacy concerns of lemmy and kbin: https://libreddit.privacy.com.de/r/privacy/comments/146804y/when_leaving_reddit_dont_jump_from_the_frying_pan/ I have some concerns about the validity of the following accusations:

  • “Kbin is sort of an alternative frontend/backend for Lemmy” (accusation made by author of post)
  • “Kbin currently does not honor delete requests from outside of their platform” (accusation made by author of post)
  • kbin is a fork of lemmy (accusation made by a commenter on the post)
  • Am I write to question these?
