I’ve been getting accustomed to using #Hawaiian alphabetical order when looking things up in the Hawaiian dictionaries… it’s a little different than #English #alphabeticalOrder because all the vowels come first and all the words that start with ʻokina (indicating a #glottalStop) come last. My #hawaiianWordOfTheDay is “ʻā pele” == “lava flow”, but I don’t have a picture of a #lavaFlow so you get a picture of this dictionary page instead!   #hwotd
Every time I fill out an online form, when I get to the State field, I imagine Tennessee saying, "Suck it, Texas. Too bad you have to do the extra click and select thing..." :-) #collation #alphabeticalorder Except having lived in both states, TN wouldn't say that. TX might if the alphabet were reversed...
While teaching English and learning to recognise a few Chinese characters, I’ve realised something. Something we probably take for granted (as speakers of languages with an alphabet with letters) is #alphabeticalorder
We use it in so many contexts, but what if there is no #alphabet (just thousands of characters)?
I have no idea if there is a substitute here, but I guess I could find out…
