(1/5) As the #Alfasud wheezed and steamed to its demise in the forecourt of a car dealer near Farnham on the A31, I wandered around their showroom, most of it way above my budget.
But sitting gleaming on one side was something Italian, sporty, economical and eye-searing: a 1982 #Fiat 127 Sport, delivery mileage only, for the princely sum of £3850. Like this (one of only three left in the UK) but probably not as well put-together.

A customer was selling an #Alfasud for £500 and it seemed like a decent buy: unusually rust-free, fast enough, and an Alfa for goodness’ sake. I bought it.
Rightly acclaimed for its handling and balance, the ’Sud was a joy to drive, and I enjoyed driving it a lot. When it ran, it was a glorious thing. When it ran.
