I usually don't post about politics in this account, but ...

These days mark the first anniversary of the horrific massacres (more like a genocidal campaign) committed against the #Alawites communities in #Syria by barbaric forces aligned with the de facto Syrian "government" (formerly the members of #ISIS, #HTS, and #AlQaeda) that is backed by #Turkey, #Qatar, #SaudiArabia, and western countries, primarily the #US. All these countries are complicit in these crimes.

Crimes against members of these communities and other minorities sadly continue to this day, which include systemic killings, rape, abductions, and forced marriages.

May the victims and their families find justice and peace soon.

Protests have erupted across Syria’s coastal regions, marking a new wave of sectarian upheaval since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime a year ago.

During the protests on Sunday, gunfire was directed at Syrian security forces at the al-Azhari roundabout in Latakia while unknown assailants threw a hand grenade at the al-Anaza police station in the district of Banias in the Tartous governorate.

So this is the future that the US and the rest of the West had in store for the Syrians?

Is this also the future they have in store for the Kurds too, by pushing for the disarmament of the SDF?

by Kit Klarenberg in Global Delinquents on Substack

“Fast forward to today, & courtesy of #HTS, the British-created #FSP [Free Syria Police] is now Syria’s national police force. Ever since #Assad’s fall, they have acted accordingly, brutally repressing internal dissent, while standing by as the new government’s militants massacre #Alawites and other #religious #minorities in the country”

"Although the report confirmed the scale of the killings, it framed the story as beginning on 6 March, when Assad loyalists launched an attack, killing security personnel. But to start the story then is to ignore the reasons those who had surrendered and welcomed a new government had taken up arms again."
