Is this a cult in charge of a nuclear super power? Aside from the suits and ties, how are they different from the Taliban?

Utterly disgusting, and unsettling.

Professionally, I am a backend Java developer. However, my passion lies in the realms of computer graphics, and everything involving math, physics, audio, simulations and like-stuff.
Aside from tech-related interests, I am also into classical music, the violin, astronomy, and Japanese stuff.
I currently live in Montreal, Canada.

I usually don't post about politics in this account, but ...
These days mark the first anniversary of the horrific massacres (more like a genocidal campaign) committed against the #Alawites communities in #Syria by barbaric forces aligned with the de facto Syrian "government" (formerly the members of #ISIS, #HTS, and #AlQaeda) that is backed by #Turkey, #Qatar, #SaudiArabia, and western countries, primarily the #US. All these countries are complicit in these crimes.

Crimes against members of these communities and other minorities sadly continue to this day, which include systemic killings, rape, abductions, and forced marriages.
May the victims and their families find justice and peace soon.
*This* is the type of thing I'm fully onboard with "AI" being used for:
- Reduces manual labor, not creative work
- Failure case only has mild consequences
- Trained on data specifically donated for that purpose
- Open source

FGED3 adds five new chapters to the series:
11 • Curves
12 • Motion Operators
13 • Models and Animation
14 • Advanced Shading
15 • Special Effects
I'm shooting for a SIGGRAPH 2026 release.
(The cover is not necessarily final.)
I was disappointed to read Cory Doctorow's post where he got weirdly defensive about his LLM use and started arguing with an imaginary foe.

A few further comments, 🧵>>

Life is complicated. Regardless of what your beliefs or politics or ethics are, the way that we set up our society and economy will often force you to act against them: You might not want to fly somewhere but your employer will not accept another mode of transportation, you want to eat vegan but are […]
It's probably alarmist, but this has me thinking: What if governments and bastard oligarchs actually manage to reverse the personal computing revolution of the last 50 years? Nothing in tech is inevitable, not even individual practical access to hardware.
my new video is out!
this one is a lot more personal than my usual stuff, but I've felt a need to express this for a long time

"Google handed over a trove of personal data about a student and journalist to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in response to a subpoena that had not been approved by a judge.
The search giant provided ICE with the usernames, physical addresses, and an itemized list of services associated with the Google account of Amandla Thomas-Johnson, a British student and journalist who attended a pro-Palestinian protest in 2024.
Google also turned over Thomas-Johnson’s IP addresses, phone numbers, subscriber numbers and identities, and credit card and bank account numbers linked to his account."

The tech giant handed over the personal information of a journalist and student who attended a pro-Palestinian protest in 2024. This is the latest example of ICE using its controversial subpoena powers to target people critical of the Trump administration.
