This year, the winners will be announced over the course of four virtual ceremonies, taking place daily from 11 to 13 January, followed by a final broadcast today in which the winners of the People's Choice and Ultimate Accolade awards will be revealed.

On Tuesday last week, the winners of the Bar, Club or Lounge, Event Spaces, Guestrooms, Hotel Renovation & Restoration and Hotel Newbuild categories were revealed.

In the second part of the broadcast, winners were unveiled in the Hotel Conversion, Landscaping & Outdoor Spaces, Lobby & Public Spaces, Lodges Cabins & Tented Camps, and Resort Hotel categories.

AHEAD awards winner creates Ibiza hotel that draws on local environment

Architect Jonathon Leitersdorf explains the vision behind luxury resort Six Senses Ibiza in this video produced by Dezeen Studio for the AHEAD hospitality awards.

The Six Senses is located in Cala Xarraca, on the northern tip of Ibiza. The project was named the winner of the spa and wellness category at the AHEAD Europe awards 2021.

The resort takes a rustic approach to luxury

The winners of the AHEAD Europe hospitality awards were announced during a live ceremony in London on 19 November.

Six Senses Ibiza is located in the Mediterranean Balearic Islands

According to Leitersdorf the hotel was designed to take cues from local village spaces on the island, in order to feel more like a real community.

"The first concept that we had in our mind was a sense of discovery," Leitersdorf told Dezeen.

"We ended up with a concept of a utopian village built out of nine buildings, which are actually all connected underground."

"The idea was to create something more like a village that has outdoor spaces and indoor spaces that are all a little different and a lot more intimate, then people will be happy to stay and never leave."

The resort was awarded in the spa and wellness category

The 20-acre site offers up to 116 guest rooms and includes restaurants, a spa and wellness centre, and a yoga pavilion.

The resort's design takes cues from the surrounding environment, with many of the structures finished in terracotta hues and an organic material palette, reflecting the rugged terrain of the site.

"Because we are building into the rock, it was very important for us to have our treatment to be very similar to the rock and basically camouflage the buildings, so when you approach from the water, you really see one colour".

The site's architecture was designed to blend into the surrounding landscape

Letiersdorf told Dezeen that the most important part of the building process was designing the overall experience of the guests.

"We design, from start to finish, the whole experience of a person in the environment – the human architecture, the connections," said Letiersdorf.

"So there's always the sense of intimacy, always excitement, another place to go. [There's] a sense of discovery."

NoMad London declared Hotel of the Year at AHEAD Europe 2021 awards

Dezeen promotion:AHEAD has unveiled the winners of its Europe 2021 edition, including its coveted Hotel of the Year award, which was taken home by luxury hotelier NoMad's London hotel.

The Awards for Hospitality Experience and Design (AHEAD) celebrates compelling hospitality projects from around the world, and is divided into four different regions: Europe, Middle East and Africa (MEA), Asia, and the Americas.

This year's Europe edition of the awards reviewed projects that have opened, reopened or launched on the continent between June 2020 and May 2021.

The NoMad London won five awards, including Hotel of the Year

The European winners were unveiled during a live ceremony that took place in London venue Evolution on 19 November. Described as an "industry reunion", it was the organiser's second in-person event since the Covid-19 pandemic.

NoMad London was the star of the night, winning five awards including Event Spaces, Hotel Conversion, Lobby and Public Spaces, Restaurant and the prestigious Hotel of the Year award.

NoMad London's event hall impressed the judges with its "transportive, dramatic [and] bold" atmosphere, winning the Event Spaces award.

Meanwhile, the building itself was awarded the Hotel Conversion prize for injecting life back into a grade II-listed building that previously functioned as a magistrates court and police station.

The hotel was a favourite among the judges, who described it as "an enchanting conversion piecing together incredible architecture" before awarding it Hotel of the Year.

When designing the hotel's spaces, New York interiors firm Roman and Williams brought together decorative Victorian elements with pieces that emulate New York in the 1920s.

The historic building houses 91 hotel rooms, a glass-domed atrium-style restaurant, a bar designed to look like a typical British pub, and a grand ballroom set within the original court.

The Fife Arms Hotel boasts an "authentic" traditional design

Another building praised for its use of history was The Fife Arms Hotel, which was awarded both the Bar, Club or Lounge and the Visual Identity award for its "stunning sense of place through colour tone and iconography that seamlessly relates to the holistic design approach".

The Suite award was given to the two-bedroom Herbs Villa at the Ekies All Senses Resort in Greece, which combined local and contemporary design and architectural elements.

The CERVO Mountain Resort is tucked away in the Swiss Alps

Situated in a colder climate, the Resort award was given to the snowy CERVO Mountain Resort, nestled amongst the Swiss Alps, which was designed with a focus on sustainability and maintaining a connection with nature.

The resort's lodges feature a modern alpine design that offers warmth through its use of natural materials, such as wood.

The Casa Ojala cabin offers a "360 guest experience in glamping"

Other winners include the Pater Noster Lighthouse in Sweden, which won the New Concept award. Situated on Hamneskär island, design agency Stylt converted the old lighthouse on the craggy isle into a hotel that takes advantage of its natural surroundings.

Also situated in a unique location is the Casa Ojala luxury cabin, tucked in amid rolling hills of rural Italy, which won the Lodges, Cabins, and Tented Camps award.

The cabin offers a "360 guest experience in glamping" as visitors are able to use a manual mechanism composed of ropes, handles, pulleys, and cranks to open up the space or give themselves total privacy.

EPR Architects transforms historic prison into NoMad London luxury hotel

Architect Mark Bruce of EPR Architects describes how the studio created a luxury hotel in the shell of an 18th-century London prison in this video produced by Dezeen for the AHEAD hospitality awards.

NoMad London is located in the former Grade-II listed Bow Street Magistrates Court and Police Station in Covent Garden, London. It is the first overseas outpost of American hotel brand NoMad.

NoMad is a luxury hotel in central London

The project was named the winner in the Hotel Conversion category at the AHEAD Europe awards 2021.

"Interpretation of luxury is a really interesting topic, especially when you come to a project like NoMad London," Bruce told Dezeen. "How do you turn a magistrate's court and a police station that had prison cells into a luxury environment?"

The prison's historic inhabitants included the Kray Twins, Oscar Wilde and Emmeline Pankhurst.

Vintage interiors take cues from the building's history

"From an architectural point of view, we worked very hard in terms of how the building was laid out," said Bruce.

"Where the hotel's main door is now used to be an entrance into a courtyard, where all the defendants would have been brought in."

"Now you walk into a stunning lobby, and the first thing you see is this three-storey atrium."

The atrium acts as the central space of the hotel

The central chamber was transformed into a glass-domed dining hall. Each storey is landscaped with overhanging plants and painted with a soft sea-foam green.

"You get a real feeling of energy from the buzz, and the chatter and the clatter. It just creates the beating heart of the hotel," said Bruce.

Interior design studio Roman and Williams furnished the space, creating eclectic and vintage-inspired interiors.

"[Roman and Williams] brought in this stunning layering of rich materials, from new beautiful timber wall panelling to some exquisite wallpapering in really theatrical colours," said Bruce.

Bold interiors breathe new life into the Grade-II listed structure

The historic magistrates' court was renovated into a formal ballroom, featuring wall murals painted by French artist Claire Basler. Rustic tableware and classical art pieces create a secluded atmosphere.

Other spaces, like The Fireplace Room, feature hand-painted custom wallpaper set against velvet upholstery in jewel tones.

Roman and Williams made use of rich jewel-toned wallpaper in many of the rooms

"It's been curated in a way that you rarely see in a hotel - it's been curated in a way that feels like you're walking into your fantasy house," said Bruce.

AHEAD winner creates Hutton Brickyards hotel in renovated factory

Co-founder and chief creative officer of Salt Hotels Kevin O'Shea explains how the group transformed an abandoned brick manufacturing facility into a luxury hotel and event space in this video.

Named Hutton Brickyards, the hotel is located in Kingston, New York, on the Hudson River. The resort also functions as a large-scale event space and was named winner of the Event Spaces category at the AHEAD Americas awards 2021.

Salt Hotels renovated the property from an original 19th-century structure

Hutton Brickyards' site was originally used as a brick manufacturing factory from the late 1800s onwards but eventually fell into disrepair.

O'Shea told Dezeen how owner and developer Karl Slovin worked to preserve and renovate the existing structures during a seven-year restoration process.

"The vision behind Hutton Brickyards first and foremost was about saving this incredible manufacturing facility," said O'Shea.

The pavilions were renovated into large event spaces

O'Shea added that the team wanted to embrace the history and decay of the site, rather than covering it up.

"People get to experience this really incredible historic piece of architecture as part of their experience at Hutton," he said.

Several of the original structures have been transformed into open-air pavilions used for hosting events.

Much of the resort is designed to be open-air and in close proximity to the surrounding environment. Guests can take part in a range of outdoor activities such as biking, kayaking and hiking.

Allowing guests to escape into nature was at the forefront of designing Hutton, O'Shea explained.

"The atmosphere we wanted to create here was you can go out into nature, you can get two hours out of New York City, but you don't have to sacrifice comfort," he said.

Interiors favour a minimalist decorative style.

Guests can stay in one of 31 individual cabins spread throughout the site, with interiors informed by the minimalist Shaker aesthetic. Functional pieces are intended to highlight craftsmanship over style.

"We've done a lot of sourcing from local makers, we really tried to highlight that to give people a sense of place and authenticity," said O'Shea.

"We want people to feel like they're at home, and that you can make this space your own."

Guest can stay in individual cabins throughout the property.

O'Shea also discussed how the hotel design industry could find ways to work with social distancing guidelines, rather than be limited by them.

"When we got involved with the project, it was actually at the height of the pandemic," he said. "And as we were looking at the site, it was like, this is kind of built for this post-COVID world."

"It wasn't intentional, but it's been a great coincidence of how this project was developed and kind of the world that we're living in right now."

One & Only Mandarina named Hotel of the Year at AHEAD Americas 2021

Dezeen promotion: The prestigious Hotel of The Year title at AHEAD Americas 2021 has been awarded to One & Only Mandarina, a luxury resort in Mexico that straddles a sandy beach and dense jungle.

This year's edition of the AHEAD Americas awards celebrates exceptional hospitality projects that have launched, opened, or reopened across the continent between November 2019 and February 2021.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the winners were announced via a virtual ceremony that took place on 12 November on AHEAD's website.

Dense jungle serves as the backdrop to Mexico's One & Only Mandarina hotel

One & Only Mandarina was the most triumphant project, winning the Resort Hotel and Landscaping and Outdoor Spaces categories, as well as the much-sought-after Hotel of the Year award.

Hidden amongst the densely forested cliffsides of Mexico's Sierra del Vallejo mountain range, the hotel is made up of a series of lavish villas and treehouse-style suites that look out onto the golden sands of the Riviera Nayarit coastline.

The spa at Paradero Todos Santos hotel focuses on ancient Mexican healing treatments

Each of its rooms is decked out with locally-sourced natural materials and comes with a secluded terrace that's surrounded by lush greenery.

AHEAD judges were blown away by its location, and commented that arriving at the hotel "feels like you've been transported to another place where you can be rejuvenated".

Círculo Mexicano was praised for its minimal Shaker-style rooms

Mexico is home to other winning projects such as the Paradero Todos Santos hotel, which came in first place in the Spa and Wellness category for its offering of ancient Mexican healing treatments and water-based therapies.

The Guestrooms and Visual Identity awards were also given to Círculo Mexicano, whose 25 minimalist rooms were praised by the judging panel for showing "elegance and simplicity" whilst still being warm and inviting.

The Maker Hotel in Hudson, New York won the Lobby and Public Spaces award for its "beautifully curated" array of artworks and ornaments made by local craftspeople.

Camp Sarika by Amangiri in the Utah desert offers a luxury outdoorsy experience

Other winners include Camp Sarika by Amangiri, which scooped the Lodges, Cabins and Tented Camps award.

Situated amid the craggy, rust-coloured cliffs of the Utah desert, the site has 10 guest pavilions – each with their own pool – which AHEAD judges described as providing "pure camp luxury".

Lyle hotel is set within an art deco building that was formerly apartments

Coming top of the Hotel Conversion category was Lyle, which occupies an art deco apartment block in Washington DC, while the Hotel New Build award went to The GoodTime Hotel in Miami, which came out of a collaboration between esteemed musician Pharrell Williams and entrepreneur David Grutman.
