Live #Webinar Lecture: #RevolutionaryDreams: A #BlackPower #Bicentennial

Thursday, February 12, 2026, 6pm-7:30pm

"Lecture Description:
In this live virtual talk (via Zoom webinar), Dr. Amber N. Wiley discusses both her scholarly and pedagogical approaches to analyzing American history through the lens of the #AfroAmerican Bicentennial Corporation (ABC). Inspired by the ABC’s work to identify and protect cultural landscapes related to #BlackAmerican achievements ahead of the 1976 commemoration of the #AmericanRevolution, Wiley has taken up their charge to 'continue the revolution' through the 'process of #decolonization, a movement toward self-realization and self-government by people determined not to be kept in a subject status.' The lecture will highlight Wiley’s public history, preservation, and teaching work in New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC related to revolutionary histories in each locale.

Author Bio:
Amber N. Wiley, PhD, is the Wick Cary Director of the Institute for Quality Communities at The University of Oklahoma. Wiley has over 20 years of experience in historic preservation, architecture, and community engagement. Through her teaching, research, and professional practice, she advances the history and narrative of design and preservation in Black communities. Her first book, Model Schools in the Model City, is a finalist for the 2026 Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) Book Prize. Her second book, Collective Yearning, is set for publication in May 2026. Amber received her PhD in American Studies from George Washington University. She also holds an MA in Architectural History and a Certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Virginia School of Architecture and a BA in Architecture from Yale University."

This is probably the most accurate review of the Vienna Philharmonic's efforts to become more inclusive and perform works by more diverse composers at their New Year's concert. (Or the lack thereof.)

"The New York Philharmonic and John Jay College of Criminal Justice co-present “Unjust Malaise: Julius Eastman and a Broken Mental Health System,” the third installment in “The Unanswered Questions” discussion series. The conversation, part of the Philharmonic’s “Authentic Selves: The Beauty Within” examination of issues of identity, focuses on the life of avant-garde composer Julius Eastman and the ways in which society ostracizes, or even criminalizes, behavior deemed to be deviant.

The panelists are Luciano Chessa, composer, music historian, and conductor; Leah Goodridge, Esq., Managing Attorney for Housing for Housing Policy at Mobilization for Justice; poet R. Nemo Hill & composer-performer Mary Jane Leach. Gayle Murchison, Associate Professor of Music at the College of William and Mary, moderates the discussion."—New York Philharmonic

"In 1955, as the Soviet Union’s pervasive propaganda about the U.S. and American racism spread globally, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. convinced President Eisenhower that jazz was the best way to intervene in the Cold War cultural conflict. For the next decade, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Dave Brubeck traveled the globe to perform as cultural ambassadors."—PBS America

Translated:
The diss between Fedez and Tony Effe is the ultimate expression of "you wanna act like an American".

From friendship to feud, the fight between the two is the Italian version of "dissing," a US phenomenon born in the world of Afro-American rap to not hold back, between a rhyme and a shootout. Epic was the recent one between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. We have to settle for a fight with a kissed rhyme, moralistic and immature, with a dusting of pecorino cheese.
