Netflix compra la società di AI di Ben Affleck per 600 milioni di dollari. Il gigante dello streaming ha acquistato la start-up InterPositive di proprietà della star protagonista di Argo. InterPositive è una società in cui si usa l’Intelligenza Artificiale per la post produzione dei film, dalla correzione colore, luci, ecc.. fino al montaggio del girato. Il regista, sceneggiatore e attore ha fondato InterPositive nel 2022.
La vendita a Netflix verrà ultimata solo ad alcune condizioni contrattuali: una quota del corrispettivo della vendita verrà versata in contanti (il leitmotiv ricorrente per Netflix, tanto che la garanzia Paramount per l’acquisto di Warner è passata proprio per la liquidità degli Ellison ndr), mentre il resto è legato al raggiungimento di specifici obiettivi di performance. Netflix ha comunque sborsato una bella cifretta, proprio dopo la sconfitta nell’acquisizione della Warner Bros.
L’intero gruppo di lavoro di InterPositive – 16 persone tra ingegneri, ricercatori e creativi – verrà rilevato in blocco da Netflix, mentre Affleck potrà rimanere come consulente creativo. “Mi preme ricordare che la società è stata creata per esplorare l’impatto dell’intelligenza artificiale sul cinema e non per sostituire gli attori con creazioni digitali”, ha spiegato nelle scorse ore Affleck per calmare le acque di fronte al comparto tecnico dell’industria del cinema hollywoodiano che non vede di buon occhio questa accelerazione, e possibile sostituzione di maestranze ferme ai “vecchi” effetti digitali. Una corsa ad accaparrarsi le migliori innovazioni di AI che ha già coinvolto i maggiori player del settore come Disney e Amazon.

There are a lot of generalizations in #Affleck's explanation. I guess he thinks he can utilize AI only in the "technical" aspect of #filmmaking without threatening actors or writers, but I don't quite understand how.

This article is an interesting reprise of a rebuttal against AI, however I wonder whether it was written using a chatbot it's so clunky, stylistically repetitive, and strangely phrased. Ironic since the actor takes apart and destroys the idea that AI can replace the creativity of actors or filmmakers. Worth reading.
