This is my first toot, mundanely to clarify for the #ABACBS2022 conference that the preferred hashtag is now #ABACBS22

David Asher at #ABACBS2022 - speaking about tackling the tricky issue of enabling deeper machine learning models to predict impact of missense mutations based on better understanding of 3d interactions - lots of interesting tools available:

Do you have some great #bioinformatics and #software skills and are looking for something new?

We have a great opportunity to join our bioinformatics team at VCGS in an exciting project - piloting use of whole genome sequencing for screening of newborns for rare genetic disorders. To find out more about this transformational project, check out our job listing on LinkedIn:

Or alternatively, if you're at #abacbs2022 come and find me in person to learn more!

#abacbs2022 kicking off with Welcome to Country from Mirana (not forgetting the COMBINE meeting yesterday).
There were so many great abstracts submitted to #ABACBS2022 .. looking forward to the talks and posters starting tomorrow
Check out my poster for ABACBS tomorrow. There are QR codes for in-person convenience, and if you download the PDF version from https://bit.ly/3TN2Ua4 you can click on the URLs for online convenience! #abacbs22 #abacbs2022 #bioinformatics

Getting ready for the #abacbs2022 bioinformatics conference. This is my poster.

In unrelated news, I bought a wacom tablet and some manga authoring software, and it is a lot of fun.

The topic of my keynote in a section "A fine line between #datascience and #bioinformatics " at SBEI@ABACBS 2022 will be "Domain expertise - a feature or a bug of a data scientist?"
What do you think? Which of the two below is a data scientist and which is a bioinformatician? :)

<div style="text-align: center;">Bioinformatics and Computational Biology are disciplines central to modern biological research. This field has experienced a rapid expansion in the last five years. The Australian Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Society (<a href="https://www.abacbs.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ABACBS</a>) was founded in 2014 and represents over 1100 bioinformaticians and computational biologists from across Australia. Our members are a mix of students, academics, researchers, and professionals. The annual conference is one of the highlights for the society and scientific community each year, giving attendees an opportunity to engage with the best computational research developed in the society.<br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size: 18pt;">About our conference</span></strong><br /><br />The ABACBS national annual conference was first held in Sydney in 2015. It has since been held annually in different major Australian cities - Brisbane (2016), Adelaide (2017), Melbourne (2018), Sydney (2019), virtual 2020, and Tasmania (2021, hybrid). <br /><br />Following the success of the 2021 hybrid conference with over 450 delegates, the 2022 ABACBS conference will be officially hosted as a hybrid event, with preference towards in-person, in Melbourne at Monash University College, Docklands and RMIT University City Campus. The conference organising committee is working hard towards making the event accessible, being hybrid, and looking into childcare options for delegates intending to participate in-person. The conference will feature plenary sessions from international and national keynote speakers, and talks selected from full-length papers or abstracts, poster sessions, workshops, and ample in person and online networking opportunities.<br /><br />As always, the conference will also host a series of satellite events, including a virtual Student Symposium run by COMBINE (<a href="https://www.combine.org.au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Australian Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Student Society</a>), the Victorian Cancer Bioinformatics Symposium (<a href="http://viccancerbioinfsymposium.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">VCBS</a>) and <a href="https://biocasia2021.bioconductor.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BioC Asia</a>. These events will be held between November 28th to December 2nd and will consist of live conference talks, as well as interactive poster sessions and networking opportunities in person and on a virtual meeting platform.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>We acknowledge the generous contributions from vendors sponsoring this event.</strong></span><br /><br /></div> <div><br /><img style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="https://static.pheedloop.com/media/events/EVEZTQCAEWJSL/files/jaqjTebK_518372.png" alt="" width="1021" height="1191" /></div>
