Deploying live facial recognition at Notting Hill Carnival, an event rooted in anti-racist history and Black Caribbean culture, is a shocking and concerning decision from the Met. How is it justifiable that people celebrating their heritage, dancing in the streets, wearing traditional clothing, attending with their family and friends, should be scanned and tracked like potential criminals?
Separately, Scotland Yard has been told by the Equality and Human Rights Commission that its plan to widen the use of live facial recognition technology is unlawful.
