Rescue services and a patrol of Carabinieri from Serravalle Scrivia responded to the scene. Medical personnel provided the man with first aid, who sustained burns on over 50% of his body; he was urgently transferred in code red to the specialized center in Turin. According to the initial investigations conducted by the Carabinieri, the gesture was due to a severe state of depression. There were no other injuries, but three other apartments, in addition to the one that exploded, were involved in the explosion.
