Ich war ja auch selber über 3 Jahrzehnte lang Whiskyhasserin - bis 2017. Meine Initialzündung war Laphroaig 10. Ihre Talisker 8 Rum cask strength.

If you are in Edinburgh on the last Sunday of a month - I recommend the whisky-tasting session in the Ensign Ewart on the Lawnmarket just down from the castle. Great value at 25UK - six drams to taste - plus a welcome dram.

Slightly different to a blind tasting in that you are given a sheet with the distillery regions, ages, cask types and abvs, but they're all jumbled up. I managed a respectable 18 out of a possible 30.

All the whiskies are from IBs and the order of preference for me was: the Geerie 11 from Adlephi (just outstanding), Dalmunach 2015 Festive Bottlings from Cask Hound, Cadenhead's Whisky Shop blend (25 yo amazing value), Dram Mor Glenrothes 10, The Bimber and lastly the Thompson Bros. Caol Ila - only because I am not a fan of peated whisky. Interestingly, nearly everyone correctly identified the Bimber.
