Whenever I am part of a thriving and high performing team, one of my main tasks as a leader has been to keep up with their pace, and not to slow them down. This requires a lot of up-skilling, reading, and improvisation on the job and not to shy away from rolling up your sleeves to get a sense of reality.

Another equal essential task is to ensure they all moving towards the same goal as a whole in a decoupled environment.

I observed that many challenges my teams have that require an intervention of their manager could be mapped to the Western topology. Even more important, even when the issue is personal conflicts, progress can often be made by focusing on the problem rather than the people having that problem. This has the strange paradoxical results that managers that focus on the technical seem to have less conflicts than managers that are more focus on the people.
