Playing around with #GitLab for the first time in a while this morning* and wow I prefer it to #github in many ways.
Little things like the text editor (specifically the way you can switch from markdown to rendered text) and the option to mark issues as confidential.
* I just signed up to git.coop through #WebArchitects (https://www.webarchitects.coop/git#free)
@GuerillaOntologist I asked #WebArchitects about this, thinking they might use FairShares rules or know someone who does, but they use Somerset rules.
Chris said: "In my experience FairShares is an academic project that has burnt through a lot of funding but I'm not sure if the project has resulted in any self-sufficient co-ops yet. The FairShares rules have only just been approved for use in the UK, so it is early days."
"Ask on community.coops.tech perhaps?"
According to a email I just received from the FairShares Association: The Financial Conduct Authority has accepted Model Rules for a FairShares Cooperative The Financial Conduct Authority is the UK’s regulator for Co-operatives and Community Benefit Societies. Their acceptance of our model rules means that people who wish to register bone fide co-operatives in Great Britain (England, Wales, Scotland) can register for £40, instead of £995. To prepare a set of rules for your new co-operative, us...
@Matt_Noyes, @idmyn is right, it's free service allowing us to set forwarding aliases on the #SocialCoop domain, granted by #WebArchitects to allow us to manage our #GitCoop accounts. It isn't intended for full email accounts.
Our Mastodon notifications go out via a bulk mailing service, Mailgun. This is also not designed to manage full email accounts.
So far we've not needed anything more. Besides it's also good to keep things simple from an admin point of view - until we have more admins!
@spudboy hi, #socialcoop is a member of #webarchitects (they provide git.coop and other services, check loomio for your git.coop complimentary account C:)
General question for social.coop -- how should we make decisions about which tools to use?
For example, in the CWG, I created an #etherpad doc on #Disroot and then asked people working on that doc to use it.
When it came to switching to #gitlab on #webarchitects, we discussed it at length.
In a recent phone chat one person suggested google hangouts and others suggested Zoom and we agreed to use the latter.
Do we need some protocol or etiquette on this?
FYI and anyone else on #SocialCoop, there's a current Tech Working Group proposal here (closing today!) to buy a share in #WebArchitects to get access to their http://git.coop #GitLab service:

(This isn't the final decision, if it passes it'll go to the main admin group on Loomio.)
