Wear OS 7 is official!
Google has introduced a major update of Wear OS, which is Wear OS 7. This new version is a very promising version, because it brings a new era of power efficiency that lets you get up to 10% battery life improvement for watches upgrading from Wear OS 6 to Wear OS 7, along with new features that make your experience more seamless.
Wear OS 7 introduces flexible and dynamic Wear OS widgets that provide users with essential information on a glance with instant updates. Those new widgets are powered by Compose, which offers greater expressiveness. Two card layouts, which are small and large, align perfectly with 2×2 and 2×1 formats on your phone, enabling cohesiveness across devices.
As if that’s not enough, Wear OS 7 now provides you with Live Updates, which allows you to take a look at real-time information or progress, such as the delivery status, right from your watch.
Additionally, this version of Wear OS provides developers the ability to connect their watch apps to agentic systems:
- AppFunctions: This API lets developers integrate their apps with agentic systems, such as AI agents and assistants. This provides users the ability to use their voice to complete tasks, such as tracking runs.
- Task Automation: Users will be able to invoke and track their automated tasks for select phone apps, such as DoorDash.
Wear OS 7 provides users with enhanced system media controls, which are the following:
- Auto-launch media player per app: When playing a media on your phone, such as Spotify and YouTube Music, and auto-launch is enabled on your watch, the media controller will automatically show up on your watch.
- Seamless audio routing: Audio output management is now easier than ever. You can seamlessly change your audio output device to another device, such as your headphones, your bedroom speaker, and so on.
The next version of One UI Watch will use Wear OS 7 for eligible Samsung smartwatches, starting from the Galaxy Watch5 series, with the stable release landing to the Galaxy Watch9 series that is expected to be unveiled in this summer’s Galaxy Unpacked event.
