Saw a friend today. Been a long time since having a chat with him alone. Was good.
Was also sad. He kept describing new physical and mental issues that he's desperately trying to fix at great expense. To the point where he's even going to "mumbo hippy doctors" for treatment.
All these symptoms have hit him after he got Covid in 2021. Two weeks after covid his boss (and friend) took him to the gym to "get strong again". That one workout wrecked him for several weeks.
And now his life is an unenjoyable shit show of symptoms and medical expenses (and "medical" expenses).
He doesn't want to believe it's long covid. Certainly none of his health care providers are suggesting it's covid - they keep treating individual symptoms, or trying to. Nothing is helping so far - at best a mild relief for a few days or weeks until the treatment de jour is no longer effective and he flails for something else.
And the saddest thing is... even if he and they did acknowledge the cause for all or most of these issues was covid, and he is suffering from long covid... I don' think it would make a difference cuz there's no treatments for long covid.
Just an endless cycle of treating one symptom after another and fleecing patients desperate for health.
:(
I wish I could help him. And all my other friends developing symptom after symptom of long covid but unwilling or unable to admit it and unable to fix it either way.
And then I think of all my new health issues and realise I'm in the same boat. What does knowing (or even suspecting) covid as the cause matter? My health care providers dismiss my symptoms as "stress" or "anxiety" or "just getting old". Couldn't be covid! That's so last year! It's just a cold. Why are you wearing a mask? Are you sick?
Well... yeah. I am.
Why aren't you wearing a mask?
