The earliest “history books” I remember reading were from the “We Were There” series. Each featured a boy and girl witnessing a pivotal moment in history. The book about the Alamo is seared in my brain because the boy is taken away at the end, presumably into slavery in Mexico.
I don’t think that ever happened in the Hardy Boys books. 🤔
