The two prints as diptych: Water Is Life and No Water No Life.

Created for the Water Docs Film Festival #waterdocsartivism challenge theme “Water is life: interconnection”

Water is vital, necessary for life. Forest fires have devastated much of Canada during this unprecedented forest fire season. Climate change has made forests drier and warmer and greatly increased the risk of forest fires & left regions desperate for rain.

I wanted to make some new art for the #WaterDocsARTivism challenge for the theme ‘Water is Life: Interconnection’.

All life needs water and is intimately connected to water. I’ve gone with some conceptual art. This is a cyanotype I made with a photo I took of the lake earlier this summer. It’s the first half of a diptych. About and made with water!

Tomorrow I will post the other half!

I am posting my linocut print ‘Blood, sweat and tears’ for the #WaterDocsARTivism challenge for the theme ‘Water is Life: Interconnection’. Printed from 8 hand-carved blocks it shows blood cells racing through an artery, a cross-section of our skin with a sweat gland, an eye with a tear & a section of ocean seawater.

Another of my prints related to Water Docs Film Festival #WaterDocsARTivism prompt: water and climate.

I printed my ‘Cloud Classification’ Lino block on beautiful ‘cloud unryu’ Japanese paper and painted the quotation, from renown Irish #physicist John Tyndall (1820-1893), “We live in the sky, not under it.”

American scientist & suffragette Eunice Foote (1819-1888) discovered the greenhouse effect,
that certain gases…
