The sun lost its shyness today, glorious to feel its muted February heat. Its bravery dissolved and let the snow flurry for a while before the skies turned blue again. The ancient mother oaks and Scots pine of the old Caledonian forests stand side by side between the bedrock crags and the shore of Loch Migdale. The only thing louder than the bird song was the incongruous whistle of the northbound train, out of sight, over the hill. Spring feels close. #walkhighlands

As well as all its amazing architecture Glasgow is also a gateway to some of Scotland's most stunning scenery. This was the top of Stob Coire Sgreamhach yesterday, looking out across Glen Coe to the mountains of the Nevis range, including Ben Nevis, Scotland's highest point. While it make take a couple of hours to get to there, Glen Coe is easily reachable from the city, even by public transport.

It's nestled in a hollow, known as a corrie, carved out by a glacier during the last ice age, and is surrounded by a horseshoe of three munros (the name given to a mountain over 3000 ft in height in Scotland). These are Ben Lawers (left), An Stùc (middle), and Meall Garbh (right).

Glasgow not only has amazing architecture, culture and people, it also has some stunning wild places within easy reach. This is Lochan nan Cat, in the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve, where I found myself today.

Ben Lawers from Meall Corranaich on a beautiful day in the Scottish mountains spent avoiding the news and knocking another couple of munros off the list.

One of the things I love about Glasgow is how close it is to the mountains. In particular, you can be in the Arrochar Alps within an hour. This area has five Munros and eight Corbetts, including the Cobbler, which was home to Scotland's first climbing club, founded in 1866.

This was the view from Ben Vorlich today back through the western parts of the Arrochar Alps and down to Loch Lomond.

Took advantage of the lack of rain this morning for a pleasant ascent of #CorryhabbieHill in #Moray
Great views of Ben Rinnes and the surrounding countryside and a welcome relief to being stuck at home for the last couple of weekends due to the poor weather ☔️ ! #corbetts #walkhighlands #visitmoray

Attached: 1 image We weren't the only ones to head high for the evening light. This stag - its magnificent antlers covered in thick velvet catching the sun - seemed to be enjoying the endless vistas too. Taken near the summit of Lochnagar. #walkhighlands
