#ScribesAndMakers 4/16. How do you feel about illustrations in (non-comic) books?

On the one hand, I really like the idea and that was one reason I started doing monochrome erotic illustrations.

On the other hand, I don't like forcing my own image of the characters on my readers.

On the other other hand, Bookfunnel are now allowing additional item downloads with any books they're delivering so you can give people extra stuff - including pictures.

And on the final hand, I can't do it for most of my fantasy books because there is no 3D model of a feathered wyvern, which is beyond frustrating. (I've even offered people money to make one.)

Finally got rid of Collabora, cuz I never use it, so #wotw should run faster now. Also installed more bridges that I use on the Matrix server. It's about as flaky as Hubzilla, but invites are available on request.

#wotw Got the Sable #Matrix instance running now, finally. The issue was Traefik. Also finding out that Floorp webapps are really good and makes me wonder why anyone would ever use Electron lol

But still, they come!

#WotW All these spambots seem to be coming from mastodon.world so imma just defed from them. Fix your shit.
#wotw server is being weird. It'll chug, basically freeze, at arbitrary times, and then a minute later seemingly be just fine and back to speedy. Ran diagnostics but haven't found any issues. Still investigating. Hopefully it's not too distracting.

I think it's safe to say now without jinxing it:

#WotW For those of you who returned or are planning on it since The Incident, the good news is that the new local host the server is on is significantly faster. So if you were on WotW prior to The Incident but didn't use it much because of how sluggish it was, that should be much less of a problem moving forward.

#WritersCoffeeClub 1/2. Talk about something you’ve retold.

Thought about this a lot and came up with nothing really.

There is one story I finished but then lost (for reasons) which I could retell, but I probably won't. Though its loss annoys me.

I considered re-doing The War of the Worlds as a 3D-rendered comic where the MC is a lesbian accompanied by her "companion", but the more I thought about it the more it became the story of a completely different person with different events, so not strictly a re-telling.

(When you analyse WotW honestly, some of the story-telling is a bit poo.)

#wotw Nextcloud server is back up. I took it down when projects using it were complete, but this should hopefully be more long-term: So long as things continue to run nice and smooth on this more powerful system, and my storage space holds up (which it should), then those with accounts at cloud.workersofthe.world are once more able to use them.
Hey #wotw, we're back.

Here's what happened:

Thursday: I got a robot call from the electrical company telling me they'd be by to swap out my meter, that this would cause a power outage, and...nothing else. Not when it would happen, not anything.
Friday, 10am: I left for the weekend for a Halloween party.
Friday, 11am: I check my phone and my server is down. Wonderful.
Sunday: I get home to the smell of ozone. My webserver is fucked. The VA image is borked, or the Management Engine, or something else that no system today actually uses but this one refuses to live without, and cannot actually be fixed. I spend the evening trying anyway.
Monday: Gave up, brought in the old server to be recycled, salvaging the HDD, of course. Turns out the recycling place had a server with three times the RAM and twice the processing power of my old one...for $37. Even the guy at the counter was suspicious of it, but now it's in my home and, as you can see, it's working.
