Have you received your local body voting paper(s) in the mail?
If NOT please contact the election officer for your council (NOT Electoral commission)
https://www.votelocal.co.nz/information-for-voters/
Maybe you enrolled or updated address after 1 August 2025, or listed in unprinted roll .
Check https://vote.nz/ as this is source of address
You need to fill in your voting form and post it back before midday 11 October.
Also note that some voting packs are incomplete as they have candidate info missing.
Please do not just concentrate on choice for mayor. Mayor is only 1 vote in any council or committee even though higher profile. Your local ward, council member vote matters too.
Your mayor still needs people who will vote with him/her to get things done.
Mayor is not in all committees in council. Council members and mayor do not usually get a say in what is decided by local boards.
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong on this.
Some of you are in areas that uses STV (Single Transferable vote) and others are in areas using First past the post.
You can find previous local govt election results at your council's website
Please get out an vote. Low turnout means your vote counts

I'm not going to tell you how to vote- many of my moots on here have zero faith in the electoral system, and rightfully so. I will ask that you #votelocal for the best candidates, because this is often where the buck stops and meaningful change is possible.
My own conservative suburb is a good example - a #grassroots campaign for a city council seat won against a corporate backed shill in 2021. Outspent 10:1, she triumphed by some 52 votes and has consistently delivered for our #community.
