I really think that this is going to work. It works better from further away, and I still need to work out how to mount the gauze and whether I need to tweak what I put on them.
But here is Nefertiti, hovering in imagination over the excavation of the city her husband built.

While the Amarna Royal Family settle into their new frame, I've got the View Of The Excavation mounted.
These two are still unsigned, but after an afternoon with the staple gun, I'm in no mood for stitching!

I decided that the work in progress was so crumpled, I couldn't see what was what, so I washed it and hung it up to dry while I went for a walk.
Looks really happy, right?

When I came back, it was raining. Sigh.

Good news: I am pleased with this figure, with the shadow and highlight.
Bad news: everything else displeases me, and I don't know what to do to change that.

Cable Plait Stitch for the hat, Hungarian Braided Chain Stitch for the rest, and in a much closer tone to the workman in front.

That's better. Just highlights and shadows to finish..

I love Cable Plait Stitch, but here it was too reminiscent of the tortured stitch I've just taken out.

I think I stand self-convicted of failure to have the courage of my convictions here. I've added both highlights and shadows, but now I wonder whether they are light enough and dark enough..
I may find myself doing some unpicking.
