There was much hilarity among the workers when the Crock of Gold Hoard was found, because the Crock in question had been damaged by the stake to which one of their number was accustomed to tether his donkey - a mere metre above a major Find!

I have no idea whether the man and donkey in the photo that inspired the watercolour were the man and donkey in question, but I was certainly thinking of them when I painted it!

There are about six years between the watercolour (recent) and the embroidery (rather older). I've been in the throes of a constantly evolving inspiration for quite some time!

I really think that this is going to work. It works better from further away, and I still need to work out how to mount the gauze and whether I need to tweak what I put on them.
But here is Nefertiti, hovering in imagination over the excavation of the city her husband built.

It's important to know when to stop, but so frustrating!
I was hoping to get two spots mounted today, but with pain beginning to increase, best not. Still, one is better than none, and a week ago, I couldn't have managed a single side.

I was reminded of this piece by a post from The Egypt Exploration Society: here's my embroidered version of The Crock Of Gold Hoard to wish you a Happy St Patrick's Day!
