Rip Vidzy.

They deleted their project after crashing out by attacking and trying to blame me for "stealing users", despite my attempts to collaborate and give them attention.

Let this be a lesson to other/future fedi devs, our projects are not a popularity contest.

We succeed together, for the people 🚀

@vidzy Vidzy is still very new, so there's no clear link if you want to try the mobile app. To get the app go to:
https://github.com/vidzy-social/vidzy_mobile/releases
then click "VidzyMobile.apk " to begin installing.

Otherwise, you can use it in your browser by going to:
https://vidzy.codeberg.page/
click join a server, join the recommended server (only two currently) then follow instructions.

As of 03/05/25, I have been unable to upload on mobile and browser, but I could comment on browser, like on both, and both were comparable to tiktok in smoothness. Very occassional lagging, but TikTok lagged sometimes too so color me impressed.

I made an account and began using the ACTUALLY open source (glaring at you loops) #TikTok alternative, #vidzy I know they are in an alpha state having just started, but I feel in my heart @vidzy is gonna be really awesome and I'm excited to say I was so early I watched every video on vidzy at some point. Vidzy is #foss , plans to use #activitypub , and all the good things and has both an online interface and app.
There are 48 TikTok alternatives on alternative.to. When you filter for open source, there are 4. Of the four, one is abandoned, one isn't actually open source (Loops), and one is overrun by AI bots pushing crypto (Olas). #Olas is further into development so it works smoother but it has a good amount of spam and is still a bit buggy. I hope it gets better but it's pretty tech-bro scam-y.
#Loops creator dan is problematic for a variety of reason including the fact that he continues to not share current code for Loops, is very immature/rude, and he 'joked' about adding ads.

Nennt sich Vidzy, ist wohl auch föderiert/hat ActivityPub Support und ist Open Source.

@vidzy @loops bénéficie encore d'un argument d'autorité grâce à Pixelfed. Ce qui explique en grande partie ce succès. Mais de ce que j'ai pu en voir pour un moment, vidzy à l'air d'avoir un lecteur vidéo assez fluide. Donc à voir comment #loopsvideo ce développe dans les prochaine Mise À Jour.
