Well there seems to be nothing wrong with the term "attention seeking"
As it could often stem from a need of validation and security. Given that we have neither of the former, it is only natural for us to seek attention.

We have very weird behaviors when it comes to attention seeking
For one we never ask anyone explictly to give us attention, and rely on others to pick up on cues and read between the lines.
If someone does pick up the cues and gives us attention, we don't interact with them. As in "it's too late, why couldn't you notice earlier?" but in reality, we'd much rather interact, but something strong is stopping us
