Op FB vraagt iemand hoe #vegan croques te maken (niet de sloffen) en nu krijg ik honger nadat ik eigen foto’s uit m’n persoonlijk archief haalde…🤣

3/3 Maybe the war and post-war period was harsher in Japan than were I am? And so the folk- memories are embedded deeper.
No sure but when I watched #TokyoStory (1953) I thought I could see the effects of years of malnutrition in the legs of the children actors.
There is a animation series #NatsumesBookOfFriends that explores further around the Japanese spirits and magic seen in #SpiritedAway.
While in no way directly related, its #Tone, focus on inter-personal (and inter-sentient-being) relationships, romanticism, artwork and soundtrack all combine to produce something quite similar in feeling to Spirited Away. Though in watercolour.
Natsume also features some scenes on levees that are highly reminiscent of the levee scene in #TokyoStory.
The elderly Shukishi and his wife, Tomi, take the long journey from their small seaside village to visit their adult children in Tokyo. Their elder son, Koichi, a doctor, and their daughter, Shige, a hairdresser, don't have much time to spend with their aged parents, and so it falls to Noriko, the widow of their younger son who was killed in the war, to keep her in-laws company.
Another movie that I`ve watched today
Tokyo Story (1953) is the story of an elderly couple who is going to visit their children. However, they don`t really seem to have time for them and sending them to different places.
It has a very sober town and it`s part of culture not to show to much emotions around other people which made it harder to get into the movie for modern European viewers but the story is well told and the movie is actually very moving
