Getting more specific, it’s the non-monogamy that feels so comforting. The neurodivergent acceptance too is also so nice.

There are some very hateful people in this book, but I have hope. This book is queer too. These characters feel meaningful, though not perfect, but I appreciate them.

Hands down the best book I’ve read this year (ha ha, this is the first one). I think I picked up a lot more than just a fun diversion.

I appreciate the pronunciation key. It really highlights the microaggressions. I also mourn more for real world impacts that kind of behavior has had.

I’m also missing a world before recent epi-/pandemics. I long for a world where respiratory illness was taken seriously where we trusted folks to stay home when sick or mask responsibly if in any doubt if going out was necessary.

Warm fuzzy feels.

I finished. I am just feeling really good. The joy it brought. The possibility.

I’m looking forward to the second book in the series coming out later this month.

Stuff is popping off. Anequs continues to impress me.

I’m absolutely crying now. I did not expect this emotional impact. I think I connect a bit with Theod and his relationship to white-coded people and separation from family while keeping his distance a bit.

The importance of connection and family is a huge theme in this book and I’m feeling more aware of my situation.

I’m also thinking of Barbara Kingsolver’s “The Bean Trees” — another story about family and separation — and my misgivings about it are just so reaffirmed.

The focus on healing and bonding and modeling allyship is just so moving. It’s currently supplanting my appreciation of Star Trek (as a whole) with its message of diversity and acceptance—partly because I feel these protagonists would not have betrayed the people who became the Maquis, but also because Anequs is rad as can be. ❤️

This book is just so sensible. I love it.

I’m on team Kasaqua breathing on half of this school of frickin’ racist, patriarchal, cloacaholes—students and faculty.

Yo. The micro-aggressions. This world is a little puzzle.

The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kalami, To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose, and The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst were definitely the highlights of the month.
