> In every branch of Timpsons there's a sign from the boss saying "our colleagues in this shop have my total authority to do whatever they can to give you amazing service."

Dan Davies' wonderful The Unaccountability Machine is the story of why there are no such signs in other organizations.

Well worth your reading time.

@christineburns saw his dad speak at an event a few years ago and took one of our volunteers along who has been in prison. We were hugely impressed by him and ethos which has evolved in how they run #Timpsons and especially how well they treat staff. Very refreshing.
@christineburns both James Timpson and his dad John are amazing characters and have done a massive amount to offer ex #prisoners dignity, trust and employment with the #Timpsons shops. James was very involved with #PrisonReformTrust too.. so a life peerage and ministerial job for him would allow him to do a lot of good work.

@sbisson Timpson's has some of the most progressive work policies of any company. As well as paying significantly over minimum wage, they give an automatic bonus and paid time off to any member of staff who is getting married, will pay towards driving lessons for staff, and literally anyone in the UK who is unemployed can get clothes dry-cleaned for free if it's for a job interview.

Lots more as well: https://www.timpson-group.co.uk/working-for-us/benefits/

This is how you develop staff loyalty.

Benefits - Timpson Group

We pride ourselves on being an excellent company to work for. We believe that the benefits, training and support you will receive will be second to none.

Today #Timpsons did an emergency repair on a shoe strap -- glue, compressed air and a hammer, since you're asking -- and gave me an antiseptic wipe for my hands after I had picked up the shoe and discovered the offspring had walked in something.

No charge. Even when I argued.
