beyond my mournful feelings about Myshkin’s febrile end, I am so struck by the fact that Natasha Filipovna SAID that Rogozhin would kill her in the very first scene in which she appeared and yet, Myshkin was really the only one who truly believed her — is that the part that makes it a classic?

I’ve boarded the #classics train once more — audio-reading Dostoevsky’s The Idiot

the first part covers the events of a little under a day and it is sustained edge of the seat fascination the entire time. utterly gripping

I’m also struck by how willing ppl were in bygone times to listen to each other babble on at such astonishing length; that seems a value which has dropped out of modern society
