Now! - the blog
When in #Luxembourg, make sure to visit 'The Family of Man', an exhibition of 503 #photographs from 68 countries curated by Edward Steichen, the former director of the New York City Museum of Modern #Art's (#MoMA) department of #photography. This #exhibition shows ... well, us. What all of us from wherever we are have in common, what connects us, what we share. This exhibition shows us that we are basically one. It is touching and painful and wonderful. In the penultimate room of the exhibition hangs a huge photo of a mushroom cloud. It is there to remind us of what we would lose if a nuclear bomb were detonated ...
More info about the exhibition: 'The Family of Man' was exhibited in 1955 at the New York MoMA, then toured the world for eight years (!) to record-breaking audience numbers. Commenting on its appeal, #Steichen said, "The people in the audience looked at the pictures, and the people in the pictures looked back at them. They recognized each other." The collection is now displayed at Clervaux Castle in #EdwardSteichen's home country of Luxembourg. In 2003, #TheFamilyOfMan photographic collection was added to #UNESCO's Memory of the World Register in recognition of its historical value.

Soeben habe ich ein UNESCO-Welterbe besichtigt. Eine sehr bewegende Ausstellung ...
