Grr. I have used TaxAct software (backed by H&R Block) for years, in the downloaded form, not online. But their support for the downloaded version seems to be evaporating: they used to support both MAC and Windows... MAC support is gone, and while they will still sell you the downloadable Windows version, there is no longer a way to access their support system from the desktop version with questions or problems.
One advantage of doing my own taxes for years: even without help from TaxAct, I was able to figure out, eventually, that the software was not being unreasonable. Just a bit opaque.
RBC Wealth Management, who handle my IRA, screwed up the state portion of the 1099-R. Two fields.
And when I contacted them to complain about the field being blank, they blew me off because "the IRS does not care about that field". Well, the IRS doesn't. but the state of Colorado does...
