#WeymouthHarbour, always bursting with interest, from #FishingVessels and #PleasureCraft, to luxury #MegaYachts and, in this case #Tallships #YouthTrust #sailcraft - and all of it right behind #AaranHouse

My little brother and I started working as volunteers on the tall ship Elissa in Galveston, Texas way back in 1986. I quit sailing professionally a few years later, but he kept at it. Now he has been invited to captain the ship for her next voyage.

I could not be more proud.

The sailing ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl in port in #Bergen. The ship has been calling the city home since 1921. Here, in 1951, gettings its keel greased before voyaging to New York! "Statsraaden", as she is called, won its first #TallShips Race in 1960.

Today, it's a school #ship for the Norwegian Navy. Right now it's on its second around the world voyage, the #OneOceanExpedition, in Colombia, travelling for Baltimore in two weeks.

The rather beautiful bell of the Archibald Russell. Constructed by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Greenock in 1905, it was one of the last square-rigged sailing ships built on the Clyde. The Archibald Russell was withdrawn from service in 1948 and was broken up in 1949. Its bell can now be seen on the Glenlee Tall Ship in Glasgow.

Farewell to #SAIL2025 as the #SailOut begins.
Masts sketch the sky, square riggers gather way, signal flags crackle, skippers wave and horns roll down the IJ.
#Amsterdam lines the quays while wood, canvas and history glide past glass towers, reflections rippling goodbye.
