Crinan Harbour, at the north-west end of the 9-mile-long Crinan Canal in Argyll, the nautical shortcut from the Firth of Clyde to the Sound of Jura and the Hebrides. The canal was constructed between 1794 and 1801. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/crinan/crinancanal/index.html
A rear view of McCaig's Tower, the magnificent folly that dominates the skyline of Oban in Argyll. What you see is what had been built by the time of John Stuart McCaig's death in 1902: it is possible that more was planned. Funny to think the village of Crinan can trace its name backwards through the Crinan Canal which was named for the nearby Crinan Ferry which superseded Port Righ (king's port), all the way back to the Creone tribe living up the west coast around 140CE documented by Ptolemy in 150CE.
It sorta looked mostly like this except I doubt the earlier inhabitants would've had to tolerate the architectural concessions to tourism and attendant pollution.
Sunrise here in Oban this morning with some amazing colour.

Today - after #StormDave has passed through - is a day of contrasts: heavy, squally showers of hail or sleet blasting out of dark clouds; or clear sunshine, even if still bitterly cold.
